Today I installed VirtualBox on by Ubuntu box a feature rich, open source virtualization solution by innotek. I created a new virtual machine and installed Windows XP. My first impression is the best. It seems to run faster than VMware Workstation, integrates better with the host OS, plus it was simpler to configure screen settings and networking (in fact, I did nothing!), while VMware tricked me a little till I made to have everything working. So far it steals my heart, I definitely recommend to give it a try.

The software comes in two different versions. The full version is free for personal and academic use, as well as for evaluating the product "for a few weeks". After evaluation you have to purchase a license. There are binaries available for Linux, Mac and Windows. However, there is one more version which is completely free but it lacks a few features, but you will have to build it from source.
